Segment 1

Segment 1 is designed to prepare teens (under the age of 18) to acquire their Michigan Level 1 Driver License.

Fee

Requirements

• 14 years 8 months of age by the 1st class
• Permission of parent/guardian

Minimum Course Content

• Minimum of 24 hours of classroom instruction
• Minimum of 6 hours of behind-the-wheel driving experience

Restrictions

• May drive only with driver education instructor unless school issues a limited parent driving permit

The Course

• Complete Stop Driver Training offers the following with each Segment 1 program:
• Parent/Student information meeting at the beginning of each program.
• Minimum of 24 hours of classroom instruction (see class schedule).
• 6 hours behind-the-wheel driving instruction (12 hours on the street = 6 driving and 6 observing).
• Students receive a copy of What Every Driver Must Know.
• Students receive a copy of Graduated Driver Licensing: A Guide for Parents.
• Students receive a copy of Road Skills Test Study Guide.
• Please bring your birth certificate and your calendar to the Parent/Student information meeting (in order to schedule your drives).

Completion

• To receive your Segment 1 Certificate of Completion, the following requirements must be completed:
• Student must attend and participate in all class sessions.
• Student must achieve a passing score of 70% in class.
• Student must successfully complete the behind-the-wheel driving objectives.
• Student must achieve a passing score of 70% on the State Final Exam.
• Upon successful completion of Segment 1:
• Student will be issued a green, driver education Segment 1 Certificate of Completion.
• The student and parent/guardian must take the following to a Secretary of State branch office to apply for the Level 1 License:
• Segment 1 Certificate of Completion.
• Certified copy of the birth certificate.
• Payment Plan-Cash, Check, Visa, or Mastercard are accepted. A $25.00 fee will be charged for returned checks. A $25.00 fee will be charged for failure to appear for any scheduled drive. Duplicate permits are $7.00.
• Refund Policy-Refund is prorated based on hours of class and hours behind-the-wheel completed. No refund is given for missed classes, although students may re-enroll in upcoming Segment 1 classes offered by Complete Stop Driver Training.
